We are pleased to invite you to our keynote event to mark the Bicentenary of
the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act, organised jointly by the Mayor of
Londonīs Office, the Caribbean Publishers Network and the Caribbean Studies
Centre. This will be a unique occasion to showcase Caribbean publishers and
thinkers. Keynote speakers are Lee Jasper (Mayor of Londonīs Office),
speaking on the significance of 2007 for London, and Caribbean scholars,
Professor Verene Shepherd and Professor Hilary Beckles (University of the
West Indies), speaking on the historical and contemporary legacy of the
Transatlantic Trade in Africans. It will also be the UK launch of the
two-volume: Hilary Beckles & Verene Shepherd Trading Souls: Europeīs
Transatlantic Trade in Africans to the Caribbean and Saving Souls: the
African and British Struggles to End the Transatlantic Trade in African
Peoples (Ian Randle: Kingston, Jamaica, 2007)
