James Thomson (1700-1748) friend of Gay, Pope, etc. Best known for "The
Seasons", four great long poems in couplets on the changing year. He's an
English classic, and always will be. That doesn't mean anyone wants to buy,
read or publish his books. You can't get the works of most of the poetry
classics, and those you can only in paperback selections for the most part.
I wonder what you do if you want to buy a copy of The Faery Queene. Thomson
will be studied through libraries and anthologies and people are probably
still writing about him (I think he features in Simon Jarvis's ongoing
prosody studies -- very advanced stuff.) So, no more neglected than most
of the rest, I'd say.
