University of Plymouth
Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research
Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence and Music
Salary £24402 to £26666 p/a
Applications are invited for a 3-year (36 months) Research Fellow post in
the Faculty of Technology at the University of Plymouth, UK, commencing on
01 July 2007 (provisional date; negotiable).
The project is aimed at the development of models and tools for the
application of probabilistic machine learning techniques to the analysis of
music and brain imaging data on music cognition. The underlying theme of the
project is the learning of patterns linking different data arising
simultaneously from the same piece of music. The project will advance our
understanding of the relationship between musical structure, performance and
experience.
The main task for this post is to develop a system for musical composition
based on predictions informed by the EEG and fMRI (using the new machine
learning tools developed by the team working in the project). Candidates for
this post are expected to have a background linking Artificial Intelligence
and Music, especially in the fields combining machine learning and
computer-aided or algorithmic composition. Candidates should demonstrate
solid experience (technical and theoretical) in development and
implementation of AI-based algorithmic composition systems, including
real-time interactive music systems.
