WORKSHOP on the FUTURE of UK HCI RESEARCH
Burleigh Court, Loughborough University, 14-15 June 2007 (starting with
dinner on Wednesday 13th).
Applications are invited from early career researchers in HCI (ECRs:
lecturers and post-docs early in their research careers) to attend a
two-day workshop intended specifically to involve ECRs and to map out an
agenda for the future of HCI research. The workshop will focus on the
future structure of HCI research in the UK, and the opportunities for
ECRs to play their part in it.
The workshop, which will include a mix of invited talks and breakout
groups, will bring together a combination of ECRs and established
researchers, who will spend two days working partly separately and
partly together to identify and discuss key goals and directions, and
likely challenges and opportunities, for UK HCI research. The outcome
will be a roadmap for further discussion among the research community,
with specific consideration given to the role of ECRs and the
development of their career paths.
The organisers will cover the cost of travel to, and attendance at, the
workshop. Funding comes from the EPSRC via the Equator project (
www.equator.ac.uk <http://www.equator.ac.uk/> ), as part of an ongoing
effort to strengthen the HCI research community in the UK.
To apply for the workshop, please send a short application outlining
your thoughts on the future of HCI research and the role of ECRs (up to
1 side of A4). Append a short academic biography (again, 1 side of A4),
including a few key publications and identifying your area(s) of
research.
Please send the application as a PDF email attachment to the workshop
co-ordinators, Professor Ann Blandford and Dr Richard Young at
[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> , to arrive not
later than Tuesday 8 May. We will inform you about acceptance by
Tuesday 15 May.
