1. Association news
1.1 Call for ALT-C 2008 Chair/Co-chairs
The ALT Central Executive Committee is seeking an experienced Chair (or
two Co-Chairs) for the ALT-C 2008 Programme Committee. The Conference
Chair/Co-Chairs will receive extensive support from ALT's permanent
staff. To express your interest, please send a brief CV (as a plain text
email) to Rhonda Riachi ([log in to unmask]), and include your ideas
for the conference theme, by 4 May 2007.
A call for Programme Committee members for 2008 will go out in June. We
also welcome expressions of interest to chair ALT-C in future years.
1.2 ALT-J Editors to retire
All three Editors of ALT-J - Jane Seale, Martin Oliver and Grainne Conole
- have signalled their desire to stand down over the coming year. We are
grateful to the Editors for their hard work over the past eight years in
raising the quality and profile of ALT-J and of learning technology as a
discipline.
Later in April we will advertise for a new Editor and Deputy Editor for
ALT-J, so watch out for that advert and please spread the word.

4.2 HEFCE news
TRAC EC-FP7 guidance: draft Report by JM Consulting
This draft report considers the adaptation of TRAC (the Transparent
Approach to Costing) for use with the EU Framework Programme. It provides
guidance on adjustments to be made in order to have a basis for
calculating eligible costs under FP7 (the TRAC EC-FP7 system). The report
is available on the Universities UK web-site.

4.4 JISC News
Over 80 projects, totalling more than £15m of funding, have been
successful in the latest round of JISC's capital programme. This round
also sees the launch of the Users and Innovation programme. Central to
the new programme is a Community of Practice, involving more than 50
institutions and ALT,
A third call for proposals, to be issued in April, will focus on e-
learning, repositories and preservation and semantic services for e-
infrastructure alongside a cross-programme call.

Spaces'.
This heralds a new style of infoKit, richly illustrated with case
studies,images of buildings across the sector and a 'virtual tour' around
an imaginary campus composed of spaces we find inspiring from a range of
different institutions.

4.6 HELIOS survey
- a European Commission-supported research project aiming to establish a
sustainable observation platform to monitor the progress of eLearning in
Europe and to forecast future scenarios of e-learning evolution. EDEN

7.1 University of the Arts London
...seeks a consultant with expertise in designing e-learning packages to
support Squeezing the Orange: citizenship through the films of Stanley
Kubrick, funded by the MLA E-Learning Grant Programme 2007-2008. The
consultant will be required to develop e-learning activities which meet
defined learning outcomes of post-16 citizenship education (within the
context of this project) and use identified, digitised, relevant and
appropriate material including photographs,
film clips, research notes, newspaper clippings and correspondence from
the Stanley Kubrick Archive (subject to copyright.)

7.2 JISC ITT: Retention of learning materials
...proposals for a study to investigate the retention of learning
materials in the UK, documenting current policies, practice and immediate
plans relating to universities' and colleges' retention of learning
materials. The report will also advise universities and colleges on good

JISC on future priorities in this area. Funding of up to £15,000
