Hi Dawna,
I was simply trying to get the word out about these two issues. The managing editor asked me to do this. The article mentioned by the person who complained below was actually published in a Disability Studies Quarterly that focused on disability and sexuality which Linda Mona and I edited in 2002. I did not have anything to do with editing the most recent American Sexuallity issue. It was the new special disability and sexuality issue of the journal Sexuality Research and Social Policy which I edited and to which I was primarily alerting list members. American Sexuality is a less academically focused publication but it also put out by the National Sexuality Resource Center. I was totally unaware of the plans to put out disability and sexuality issues of both magazine and journal at the same time. But it obviously makes sense from a marketing perspective.
In terms of the poor taste exhibited by myself and Linda Mona five years ago. What can I say--the article is about those artists who are reclaiming stereotypical images of disability, especially in terms of sexuality through their art. I think Ronda Gowland's title was meant to be controversial to reflect the controversy that surrounds this topic. I have not seen the new issue of American Sexuality, but the version of this article that she wrote for us in 2002 was not quas-pornographic and was not a voyeuristic exploration of human sexuality.
Thank you for passing on my message. I am saddened that my posting has caused someone to want to be dropped from a list-serv. I merely wanted to alert folks to what I consider to be important scholarly work done on the topic of disability and sexuality, and also to some more accessible articles in an accompanying magazine. Perhaps we should all think about the possible repercussions we might get if we post certain potentially controversial messages on particular list servs. Best,
Russell

Hi, it was been brought to my attention by someone a post I had

I wanted to make it clear to everyone all I was doing was passing
along a publishing alert for Sexuality Research and Social Policy and
American Sexuality Magazine that someone else had posted to a very
popular disability studies listserv. If people found my posting
offensive, I do apologize, but their offense was misdirected.
I would like to suggest if people have a problem with the content of
those journals to either write a letter to the editor, post publicly
to the listserv, or if they wish to be removed from the listserv to
contact the listserv manager. Don't shoot the messenger, that's what
the delete button is for.
Thank you.
