I have been asked to clean/conserve a couple of medals made in 1971, which
are somewhat discoloured and greyed, in order to photograph them. I don't
know what they are made of but they are a dull silver in colour and were
once very shiny and gleaming.
I also have a small number of other medals of varying sizes and made from
different metals.
I would be very grateful for guidance on cleaning and storing of all of
these items.
I would also welcome advice re copperplates. Those held in the archives
have been well used in their day (early-19th century to c.1930), some are
very large, some quite small, but they are mostly too dirty/blackened to
be displayed.
If anyone has experience of looking after similar items, I would welcome
their comments, particularly those of conservators and specialists in
these fields.
Thank you.
