Departments of Earth Sciences and Mathematics
The Departments of Earth Sciences and Mathematics seeks a highly motivated,
high calibre student to develop advanced statistical methodology which is
appropriate to tackling certain important problems in the petroleum
industry. The PhD would be appropriate to a student with interest in
developing a career either as a professional within the oil and gas industry
or as a statistician with interests in this industry. You will join the
Petroleum Geoscience PhD Scholarship Programme that is unique in Europe as
it provides structured industry interaction, training and nurturing.
This scholarship, fully funded by WesternGeco, is available to UK and EU
citizens. We seek graduates with a BSc or MSc in Mathematics with knowledge
of statistical methods. An interest in Earth Sciences, Geophysics or
Computer Programming would be an advantage.
The student will work on the research project:
Developing Bayesian based strategies to assess uncertainty in velocity models.
