BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTIST

BIOMATHEMATICS AND BIOINFORMATICS DEPARTMENT
Rothamsted Research wishes to recruit a Bioinformatics Scientist who will
take responsibility for developing and supporting software and databases in
use by our crop scientists who are dependent on high quality genetic and
genomics information.
The person appointed will also be responsible for working closely with a
data curator who will need new software and database tools to be able to
work productively. The appointee will interact with other bioinformatics
staff and would be located in the Bioinformatics Group.
Applicants should be a computer science or biological sciences graduate
with previous experience of maintaining and developing bioinformatics
software and web-enabled database applications in a Unix environment.
Candidates trained in biology must have at lest an MSc in bioinformatics or
related subject. Prior experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL would be an
advantage. The ideal candidate would be competent in at least two of the
following programming languages: Java, Python, Perl, SQL, PHP.
This appointment is full time and within Band 6 with a starting salary
normally in the region of £24,200 and £27,200 per annum.
