Lectureship in Epidemiology
Ref: A814
Salary on grade 7 (£28,290 - £31,840)
Closing date 22 May 2007
Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Epidemiology within
Lancaster University’s
recently established Department of Medicine. The Department collaborates
with the University
of Liverpool in the delivery of Liverpool’s innovative, highly regarded
undergraduate medical
curriculum, and wishes to expand its activities in undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching,
and in research.
The appointee will contribute to the teaching and administration of the
undergraduate medical
degree to an annual cohort of 50 Lancaster-based students and to the
development and delivery
of new postgraduate degree programmes, either within the Department of
Medicine or in
collaboration with other departments. In particular, the appointee will
be responsible
for the development of assessment procedures within the Department. This
will include
taking overall responsibility for the design and delivery of valid and
robust written
and clinical assessments and developing and training University and NHS
staff in appropriate
standard setting procedures.
The appointee will contribute to the epidemiology research in the
Department of Medicine
currently being undertaken by a group which includes Professor Peter
Diggle, four
post-doctoral researchers and five research students. The appointee will
be expected
to develop their own programme of research, either in substantive
epidemiology or
in epidemiological methods, and will be encouraged to develop
collaborative research with
other groups in cognate areas. Current application areas include:
real-time disease
surveillance; environmental exposure measurement; tropical disease
prevalence mapping;
spatio-temporal evolution of campylobacters; clinical trials in
cardio-thoracic surgery.
This work complements that being carried out by the Medical Statistics
Unit in the Department
of Maths and Statistics and will be developed with colleagues in NHS
Trusts and other public
sector agencies both locally and nationally.
