I am hearing that the British Library has had its funding cut by 17% -
and as a consequence is going to have to cut some of its services - and
charge for some others.
There is a petition on the PM petitions website:-
>>http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/library/
And some more background (newspaper reports) on:-

I can't find anything about this on the British Library website - so not
sure whether the cutbacks are official.
If the cut back - which appears to be a reduction of existing funding
rather than a cut back of 17% of requested increases - is true, I
suspect it reflects the lack of planning for the future shown in other
fields: *can* you allow a 15% reduction in the archive (not sure how
that would work!) and at the same time preserve this valuable archive?
Or does Gordon Brown care?
Anyway, please have a look and support the British Library!
