Dear Sophie,
at which point during analysis you do run out of memory? If it is
during/after ReML estimation, then the maxmem setting does not have
any effect and you may well have hit the memory limit. I've been
running a slightly larger analysis on a 64bit Linux machine and during
the design filtering step after ReML it used up to 3G of memory for
MATLAB alone.
