Dear colleagues
Thank you all for your appreciation of Eithne's life. We are all very
shocked here and we have just attended the burial service in Belfast.
Her funeral will take place in Derry later today.
I would like to join with others in saying that I think the idea put
forward by Angus of having a memorial fund to be used to help an Irish
person complete a Phd in social policy is a fantastic idea.
I have taken the liberty of informing Tony Mc Cashin (Trinity College
Dublin) of the idea for a memorial and asked him to communicate it to
the Irish Social Policy Association (ISPA). Eithne was very involved in
the early years of the formation of the ISPA and a highly regarded
colleague throughout Ireland.
I also took the liberty of conveying the good wishes of the SPA to
Eithne's eldest son this morning and he was very pleased and moved to
hear about the idea of a memorial.
I hope that I have not overstepped the mark by these actions, but I did
what I thought best.
As some of you know, Pat (Eithne's husband) is arranging a memorial
service to be held at or near the University in the future. If I hear
details before other people, I will send a message to the list.
Sincerely
Pauline Prior
