This is an ingenious idea but I think I prefer Angus' original suggestion
for personal donations. Otherwise it is in effect our institutions who are
paying and I think those contributing would probably prefer it to be a
personal donation in honour of Eithne's memory. Angus tells me he's already
raised £850 which is pretty good going in a few hours! I think we are all
very grateful to him for taking the lead on this.

Give Eithne's long association and if it is not too late in terms of fee
fixing for the SPA conference it could be an idea to have an Eithne memorial
tax on the fee - I like the idea of the PhD student support that Angus
suggested.

Perhaps we could raise some money hopefully as much as would give support to
an Irish woman studying social policy for a PhD? I'm broke but would put in
£100 to start the fund.

Thanks for letting us know - really so very sad.
Will the SPA be paying a special tribute of some kind?

Dear friends and colleagues
I am so sorry to have to tell you that Eithne McLaughlin died
yesterday
afternoon in hospital in Belfast. Eithne was taken ill suddenly on
Sunday
night, and her husband Pat says she died peacefully on Tuesday
afternoon.
This is desperately sad news and we will all miss her terribly.
