Two things spring to mind:
Make pH indicator by boiling red cabbage (think it's red cabbage,
surely someone will tell me if I'm wrong), and use it to test loads of
everyday things (I've seen this done using a 96-well plate which kept
it all very tidy and it was fun to use pipettes).
Pop rockets! There's nothing better than pop rockets! Ok so would have
to think about H&S, but could experiment with different substances to
see what makes them pop, and work out (would link nicely to the above)
that you need a mix of acid and alkali.
