Hi Everyone;
Over the past few months a group of science enthusiasts here in
Manchester (UK) have been meeting to discuss the idea of staging a
Science Festival in the Greater Manchester region.
I am pleased to be able to report that the group, which includes
representatives from learned societies in the region, universities,
business, schools, community groups and the public sector has been
successful in securing a small amount of seed funding which will be put
towards staging an initial, relatively modest, "trail-blazer" festival
during October 2007.
This message serves both to let our colleagues know of our plans, and to
seek advice, ideas, volunteers and help as we try and make "our"
festival a great event for the people of our region. A formal launch
will occur in a few weeks, but we felt it important to let others know
about our intentions so they can get involved, if they so wish.
Timed to occur over half term (October 20-28th 2007) it is our hope and
ambition that our Festival will grow over the years and become as
important a part of the cultural calendar of our region as the more
established science festivals are of theirs.
Please contact either me ([log in to unmask]), or the recently
appointed Festival Director Laura Drane ([log in to unmask]) for
more information.
Wish us luck!
Sincerely
Ian Griffin
