Beatles at 13, but the Stones by the time I was 16. Basically, I agree with
Mark on this one, though. I can remember some very shall we say intense
listens to the White Album long about 1970 or 71. But then the same goes for
Let it Bleed.
Today I'm listening to Lucinda Williams, daughter of poet Miller Williams,
as I grade papers. "World Without Tears" is a flawless record; I've only
listened to the new one, West, a couple of times so far in the car, but I'm
doing a back-to-back listen this afternoon. Last week I showed the
documentary film Janis to my Lit. of Am. Popular Music class -- it has
several completely riveting performances in which Joplin just transcends
herself.
