Molecular Physics Laboratory (MPL) is searching for well-qualified
candidates for a post-doctoral position in experimental physical chemistry.
The work involves laser photon ionization spectroscopy in combination with
time of flight mass spectrometry for trace level detection of specific
organic compounds, under the supervision of Dr. Harald Oser and Dr. Michael
Coggiola.
The candidate will be responsible for laboratory operations, laser
maintenance, vacuum system operation, data acquisition, data reduction and
analysis, and experimental design for a diverse array of analytical tasks
including trace species detection, surface characterization, charged species
generation and diagnostics.
Requires: Ph.D. in Physical Science or Engineering, and must be either a
U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident of the U.S. Prior experience in the
application of tunable, pulsed lasers and optics to photoionization
time-of-flight mass spectrometry is required.
Prior experience with ion optics design and application and short pulse,
femtosecond, laser systems is desirable.
SRI International is a nonprofit contract research organization, located in
Menlo Park, California, in the San Francisco Bay region, and is one of the
largest such establishments in the world. Many areas of research are
represented by the investigations carried out at SRI, including chemistry,
physics, engineering, life sciences, computer sciences, education, and a
variety of other disciplines. MPL has an international reputation for
creative and innovative research in atmospheric studies, combustion
processes, surface science, plasma research, and molecular beam research.
Appointment is for a minimum of one year, with a second year normally being
available upon mutual agreement.
