Dear list members,
i was wondering if anyone could help me trace a scholar who used to
write on mining investment in the late victorian period. his name is
Jean Jacques Van-Helten and completed his PhD on British and European
investment in South African mining in 1982 at the university of
London. he published a number of articles in the area of historical
mining investment and south africa all around the same time and then
seems to have disappeared from the scholarly world.
articles he published include:
TURRELL, R. & VAN HELTEN, J.-J. (1986) The Rothschilds, The
Eploration Company and Mining Finance. Business History, 28, 181.
VAN-HELTEN, J. J. (1985) La France et l'Or des Boers: Some Aspects of
French Investment in South Africa between 1890 and 1914. African
Affairs, 84, 247-263.
RICHARDSON, P. & VAN HELTEN, J.-J. (1984) The Development of the
South African Gold-Mining Industry, 1895-1918. The Economic History
Review, 37, 319-340.
i am currently engaged in a closely related research field and am
very keen to track down someone with experience and similar approach
to myself and discussing his research findings in this relatively
specialised field
Any help would be much appreciated.
warm regards,
Tomas Frederiksen
