in Scotland ... AND ... Leadhills Miners Library ... is the oldest
subscription library in Britain.
Hang on I thought Scotland was part of Britain
Ah! the clue is the next sentence
"Leadhills is an adjacent village to Wanlockhead."
- Two separate libraries !! one from 1741 the other 1756 my mistake
Glad to see the museum (and libraries I assume) have got funding and a more
secure future
