MRC/ESRC Interdisciplinary Research Studentships
MRC & ESRC
The MRC and the ESRC wish to encourage research on issues of interest to
both Councils, which require the combined approaches of the medical and
social sciences. The two Councils intend to jointly fund up to 20
interdisciplinary research studentships through this scheme in 2007.
Applications are now invited for commencement in October 2007
The interests of both the MRC and the ESRC must be addressed, and
applications should be genuinely interdisciplinary in approach. While
applications are invited from any sub-discipline of the social or
medical sciences, the following priority areas have been identified:
Economics of Health (Main Priority); Public Health (including the
developing world); Prevention and Management of Chronic Health Problems;
Health Service Delivery; New Medical Technologies (including genomics
and stem cells); Health Inequalities; and Social Neuroscience.
MRC/ESRC Research Studentships
Applications will be accepted for 1+3 awards or +3 awards (applicants
must hold a degree at master's level in either the medical or social
sciences). A prospective student must have two named supervisors, one
each from a social science and a medical science background. The
department that will administer the studentship must either satisfy
MRC's funding criteria or have ESRC recognition.
The MRC will be administering the scheme, and as such all applications
should be submitted to the MRC by 4pm on 27th April 2007. Applications
received after this time will not be accepted. It is essential that all
documentation is returned to the MRC and not to the ESRC.
Detailed information and guidance can be found at

Please note that the MRC/ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowships Competition will
be advertised at a later date.
