I see some posts are still coming in about 'Media Studies 2.0', an article
which I posted last month on Theory.org.uk (at
http://www.theory.org.uk/mediastudies2.htm) and which was then mentioned on
this list by Annette Casey.
Responses have ranged from enthusiastic discussion to head-in-the-sand
rejection, and from interesting argument to the surly 'I have been doing
this for years' (which is, of course, fine!).
Of course the opposition of Media Studies 1.0 and 2.0 is polarised and
artificial, as some people have noted, but at least it's nice to be having a
debate.
Since we mostly don't discuss anything, least of all our own work, on the
MeCCSA list, I'd like to point out that I did not intend to be discussing
this here (though I am happy to!) and that I am only responding to posts
made by others.
Since discussion has been taking off, William Merrin set up a forum to
discuss the argument at:
http://twopointzeroforum.blogspot.com
I have recently posted a 'response to the responses' there, at:
http://twopointzeroforum.blogspot.com/2007/03/response-to-responses.html
It's probably best to continue the conversation on that forum, and we
welcome all comments and contributions.
Best wishes
David
