The Wellcome Library, together with the JISC Collections, are undertaking a
consultation exercise to determine the potential value - to the teaching
and research communities - of digitising a collection of historical medical
film materials.
The proposed project - WellcomeFilm - would be a virtual collection of 100+
hours of historical medical moving images and sound selected from the
historical medical film collections of the Wellcome Library. The collection
would comprise a century (c.1900-2000) of medical, health and social care
provision and practice in the UK. The online archive would be made
available to the community, for free, via the Film & Sound Online Service
(http://www.filmandsound.ac.uk/).
To help us assess the potential interest and value of this project, please
visit the Consultation on WellcomeFilm (http://www.jisc-
collections.ac.uk/consultations/coll_consultations/wellcomefilm.aspx) web
site. In addition to being able to provide valuable feedback, the site
provides further information about the project and has sample video clips
which you can download to get a flavour of the content which would be made
available if this project were to go ahead.
Responses are required by the 9th May 2007.
