Dear Colleague
As part of our programme of ongoing improvements to the Eduserv Chest
website, we are pleased to announce the completion of the first phase of
our website development - the transfer of the site to a new content
management system. This is now live on the Chest website.
This enhancement will provide us with much greater flexibility to
structure the site and add the new content and features you requested
through our website consultation.
Initially, the site will be very similar to the existing website, with
some small but significant changes detailed below. Over the course of
the next few months, we will make additional changes to the site to
improve the look & feel, navigation and content on the site. We will
keep you informed as these are developed.
Initial changes to the current website include:
----------------------------------------------
- Simplified navigation making it easier to find your way around the
site
- Breadcrumb trail allowing you to keep track of your location within
the site
- Latest news section featured prominently on the homepage
- Easier agreement search, with A-Z list of agreements now including
product names, e.g. EndNote, Procite etc. where appropriate
- Future agreement information accessible through the homepage
- More consistent presentation of agreement details. This work will
continue
- New Google Search providing you with a more refined search tool
We have also taken the opportunity to review the site to ensure all the
content is up to date. This has meant removing a number of pages we
felt were no longer required. Please contact us if you cannot find the
information you require.
If you have set up any bookmarks, we have made sure that you will be
redirected to the appropriate page automatically. Again, please let us
know if you have any questions.
Future development of the Chest website
---------------------------------------
The future developments of the website are designed to deliver some of
the more complex requests you made through our consultation exercise. We
will update you on timescales as we develop these elements of the
project. We will ensure that the future website continues to build on
the simple structure of the existing site, with the emphasis on
improving ease of use and developing new and relevant content.
Potential future developments include:
--------------------------------------
- Institution specific pages where you can view details of all your
Chest agreements
- Online ordering (not purchasing)
- Community forums
- RSS feeds
- More detailed information about the status of agreement negotiations
and renewals
- Improvements to the wish list and wish process
- Improvements to licence documentation and auto completion of contact
details
- Improved search function to allow you to find information by agreement
category, product supplier, standard compliance, licence terms and
conditions such as walk in use, exceptional licence details etc.
We hope that these changes will improve your experience of the Chest
website and look forward to working with you to deliver additional
features in the near future.
