If only more universities were actually running digs in this country
that students could go on.

Probably not Dave, but at least, following Richard Bardley's discovery a
couple of years back of just how much has been leant about British
prehistory via PPG16, university based archaeologists are waking up to
the vast amount of recent info. out there.
Perhaps they will now give up their summer fieldwork in France, Tuscany
or wherever and spend the long vac. in Blighty!

Not that I am being cynical, but why does there appear to be no attempt
to assess the grey literature in academic institutions and held by
various societies?

Subject: Roman Grey Literature Project
Dear all,
Cotswold Archaeology and Reading University have recently received Stage
1 funding from English Heritage for the Roman Grey Literature Project.
The attached project summary provides information on the aims and
methodology of the project, and there will also be a poster display in
the North Cloisters, University College London at this weekend's Roman
Archaeology Conference (with a Sunday morning talk by Neil Holbrook).
We
thought it appropriate to notify as many colleagues as possible about
the project, as the results of Stage 1 are planned to be available
through ADS as a research tool (by the end of the year). I am planning
to send further summaries mid-way through, and at the end of Stage 1.
Best wishes

Did you know? Every main library invests in around 25 of the latest
blockbuster DVD titles each month, and they can be hired from the
