Dear all,
Concerning the afore-mentioned post, please pass on to
anyone you know who may be interested. GEM has
contacts with a much wider interested community than
simply those who subscribe to this GEM list. It is
good that both those not in museum employment and
those who are, at whatever payscale, are able to
access and share information that will be of use to
some.
As for the salary level it is absolutely commensurate
with posts which crucially are at that scale and with
those hours. Indeed it is what a classroom assistant
in the LEA is paid and we should not deny a choice to
them or others, perhaps some doing voluntary work in
museums. In fact those of us who started out in
museums in exactly this way would certainly welcome a
variety of opportunities to gain valuable experience.
For those interested in jobs at other pay scales the
same website will show those too as applicabe, for
example there is currently a Scale 5 post on there
(salary of £18,450 - £20,235).
All are of course very welcome.
Cheers,
Gareth Brettell,
Barnsley Museums
