A rich vein this I believe, if we can get past the left v right name
calling - all too easy to dismiss, as you suggested Tom, but full of
value.
Adler misunderstood his authority IMHO, but his heart was in the right
place with the "Great Books" (sometimes those who are "wise" must dare
to "impose" their values on those being educated, but not lose sight
of the low value in whatever authority they have to make such
imposition - but as I've said before that's how you can tell they are
wise - my Groucho-club remark.). Allen Bloom keeps cropping up in
these debates too.
I think the transtion from early (pedagogic) to later (aesthetic)
Dewey is an object lesson we can use.
Let's keep digging for those nuggets.
