Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Development Conference & Exhibition
(DIHAD)
1st – 3rd April 2007
DIHAD - a high level conference and exhibition of goods and services for
humanitarian aid delivery - is held under the auspices of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed
Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the United Arab
Emirates, Ruler of Dubai, in cooperation with Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Humanitarian and Charity Est. and is officially supported by the United Nations
and the UAE Red Crescent.
DIHAD 2007 aims to contribute to the current dialogue on aid issues by
discussing some of the most pressing issues currently facing the humanitarian
domain as seen – where relevant – from the Middle East perspective. As per the
established DIHAD tradition, such discussions will not be held for the sake of
dialogue alone, but rather with the aim of identifying clear, practical,
realistic and tangible lessons learned. In parallel with the policy dialogue,
DIHAD 2007 will host highly participatory events aimed at the dissemination of
lessons learned and best practices to a wide audience of humanitarian and
development aid workers.
Dubai is increasingly positioning itself as a global hub for a variety of
humanitarian support services, functions and operational logistics and
therefore an ideal location for procurement and logistics officials to meet the
largest gathering of suppliers in the Middle East, with over 300 companies from
20 countries.
The DIHAD 2007 Conference, ‘New Perspectives on Prevailing Humanitarian
Challenges’, is designed to focus on some of the most pressing international
humanitarian aid and development issues, particularly in Africa, the Middle
East and Southern Asia. Several key topics will be discussed, including
Effective and Principled Humanitarian Action: Lessons Learnt from Recent
Crises, Partners in Humanitarian Action (looking at financial flows and
funding), Health in a Globalized World (new challenges), New Tools in
Humanitarian Information Management and a special session on the Risk Reduction
Perspective.
DIHAD is attended by key decision makers from leading international, regional &
local NGOs, UN Agencies, Governmental Departments and international
associations due to its’ unique status as a meeting point for all sections of
the global humanitarian domain. Thanks to the participation of so many
different actors, DIHAD 2007 will constitute a perfect setting for the creation
of new partnerships and the further expansion of existing ones. International
aid coordination in general will greatly benefit by a better mutual knowledge
and understanding and by joint discussions over issues of common concern.
Finally, DIHAD 2007 will also constitute an ideal platform to agree upon and
disseminate key advocacy messages on behalf of the international aid community.
Verified procurement and logistics officials, from NGOs and the UN system,
attending the DIHAD 2007 Conference & Exhibition stay free of charge for the
duration of DIHAD 2007, with their three nights accommodation sponsored by
event organiser, Index.
