Neither ICT nor E-learning are still hailed as the answer to all education;
the bubble burst quite justifiably. Nevertheless, a sober approach does
show that for many educational contexts ICT offers opportunities that would
not otherwise exist. Therefore I imagine that some people on this list
would could be interested in further professional development through a
training coursein e-learning methods, whether for distance or on-site use
of ICT. The point about it is that you would be evaluating e-learning by
learning that was yourself, in an environment of rich peer discussion of
the issues.
I am referring to the course in Online Education & Training, from the
Institute of Education, run globally with regional groups. Our "students" -
all professionals and trainers - normally include not only teachers but
related staff that may be part of e-learning design teams, e.g. technical
specialists or librarians. Thus, participants come from a range of
different disciplines and educational backgrounds and usually enjoy the
unusual opportunity to share both what they have in common and where they
differ. You'll find it a forum of UK and world-wide educators.
As with much good modern teaching, we focus very much on group
collaborative learning, both in our method of running the course and in the
topics we discuss. There is also a range of special options to cater for
specialist interests. These are expected to include
online discourse and moderating
computer-based assessment
mobile technologies
Real-time teaching with CHAT or video-conferencing and whiteboards
blogging and podcasting
The next start is 13 May 2007. We suggest you register as soon as
possible.
The course carries 30 UK credits towards either a masters or a diploma and
can be taken by 10 weeks distance study online.
The fee is £Stg 499, which can be paid by bank transfer, credit card or
instalments.
