Subject: ONLINE RESEARCH METHODS course
All of those interested in using the Internet as a research tool are invited to enroll to the ONLINE RESEARCH METHODS course at the ECPR Summer School in Methods and Techniques at the University of Ljubljana, from July 23 to August 4, 2007. The course will be taught by Dr Katja Lozar Manfreda and Dr Bojana Lobe.
The course will deal with the challenge of using new information-communication technologies (ICTs), especially the Internet, for data collection purposes, which have become essential for empirical research across many disciplines. Online research methods are essentially facilitators of 'traditional' methods modified in such a way that can be used in a number of online venues, such as email, chat rooms, web pages, various forms of instant messaging and other applications provided by the internet. They can be used for search and analysis of secondary data and for primary data collection. Methods and techniques such as web surveys, online focus groups, online in-depth interviews, and virtual ethnography, will be examined in detail. Methodological as well as practical questions of using online research methods, including introduction of possible software packages, will be addressed.
For more detailed information, please, visit the summer school website:

We are looking forward to seeing you there!
Katja Lozar Manfreda and Bojana Lobe
