Trish
We have been using sms texting via Blackboard for a couple of years. We
developed our own building block and use the M:Science texting gateway.
Usage has been low to moderate, despite the potential advantages that
the service offers. That may be due to our low-key marketing of the
service, or a range of other reasons. One of our Faculties is a regular
user due to the attendance profile of its students.
There has been concern that a high level of usage will attract higher
and unnecessary budgetary expenditure. I am waiting for the result of
the UKERNA sms tender in the hope that the price of text messages can be
reduced by the attraction of aggregated usage discounts, and their
procurement process. The contract is due to be awarded at the end of
April.

Subject: SMS messaging from Blackboard
How are people getting on with sending SMS messages from Blackboard. Are
you using full commercial solutions such as clearTxt (anyone else)? Have
you built your own building block and using a bulk text provider? How
successful is your solution and hom much does it cost??
Id be interested in any feedback .. both good and bad.
Thanks, Trish
