Hello there,
In reply to Reuben Thorpe's email re. Kosovo, yes, he is right. Birte Brugmann
from Germany has done work out there with Cultural Heritage without Borders in
order to try and implement 'standard' archaeological recording practices as
part of building developments in Kosovo. At the moment she is thinking about
setting up a UN funded project as well with a number of her colleagues,
focusing on the issue of origin myths, but it is still very early stages, and
nothing definite has taken shape yet. Same with regards to fieldwork; there's
talk about possible projects there, again non-forensic, focusing on doing the
kind of 'standard' rescue archaeology as we're used to in the west.
Actually, Rueben, I think a mutual acquaintance of us (Dom Perring) mentioned
your name once when I talked to him about Birte's work in Kosovo, suggesting
you may have some useful information/contacts/ideas. Maybe we should talk
about this sometime? In a few weeks there's a seminar at UCL, at the
anthropology department, where some of the speakers are from Kosovo itself-
Birte and I will be attending, in the hope we can have a chat and come up with
some concrete plans. Or if anyone else has experiences/ideas/thoughts on the
matter, please get in touch.
Best,
Letty
