Gee whiz, guys and gals, I haven't had such a varied response for a long
time <g> Thanks to you all. I was really stuck for something to say on
Wednesday, but as I'm a Snap addict, that night I dreamt of the Wallace
Stevens piece, and thought of the 'tears/years' couplet after dawn. The
wiseman verse is a pun on Ron Silliman and his New Sentence, and the
'barber' is of course our Barbour and his current sig. It was a game, but
also an echo of our recent discussion on quotes and plagiarism (a la Dylan,
etc). The respect shown the first verse will make me hold it aside and
consider it. So, thanks all.
And, Doug, yes, 'only the time for laughs' now ('now ain't the time for your
tears' His Bobship). I had a history of depression some time back, for a
couple of decades, and wallowed in it at its worst, but realised at the
finish that only I could drag myself out of it and get on with a positive
life. Even in this cesspit of an environment, I find positives in the
students (and see the light at the end of the tunnel - June looms on the
horizon) and charm in the contrast of peasant life and big business on the
streets of this crazy town.
