We've had a call from a charitable museum sector organisation who have
their website hosted by Techmerit, a UK firm who appear to have gone
into liquidation over the last few days.
24 Hour Museum is not looking into this journalistically, but we'd be
interested in hearing from anyone else out there in the museum and
gallery sector who are also serviced by Techmerit.
As a result of the current situation, it seems there are several
organisations who are currently 'locked out' of their websites, and
unable to update content. In one case, the site owners tell us their
site was taken down, and content and assets (paid for with public money)
are not available to them.
We're not in the business of making mischief here - if anyone from
Techmerit cares to get in touch and refute the news that they appear to
be in liquidation, then fine. If there are more prosaic reasons for the
sites that contacted us being locked out then we'll leave it at that.
In the meantime, contact me off list if you like, and we can see if
there are alternative avenues to help those affected by the collapse. It
would be great to make use of some of the expertise of MCG members if we
can, I think.
