italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
CALL FOR PAPERS sent by Gregory Pell, Assistant Professor of Italian, Hofstra
University (NY).
Hofstra Cultural Center
and the Hofstra University Department of Romance Languages and Literatures
present a conference
At Whom Are We Laughing?
Humor in Romance Language Literatures
Catalan, Galician, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish
April 10, 11 and 12, 2008
If humor is transgressive, what has been overturned?
If corrective, what progress has been made?
Must humor serve a higher purpose?
Or can there be a humor for humors sake alone?
Together, within the scope of seven language paradigms, we will attempt to answer
these questions and pose many more, even as we wonder: At Whom Are We Laughing?
We invite submissions of papers and suggestions for panels. Papers should focus on
