Hi all,
I wonder if anyone has a moment or two spare to give me some simple advice
on keeping my notes? It sounds like a simple problem, but the methods I
used for my undergrad degree are proving impractical and confusing! I'm in
my second year and have started writing up my first experiments, and to be
honest, I'm in a hell of a pickle.
I'm tired of having to keep re-reading papers because my notes aren't
comprehensive enough, but if I make my notes comprehensive, I might as well
just copy out the papers... Anyone else ever found themselves in this catch
22? I've got all my references in Endnote, and pen & paper notes filed by
lead author / date, but still find myself constantly going back to try and
find out who said what, because my initial notes were taken in a different
context.
Someone suggested I should put all my pen & paper notes into Endnote as
well, which would make them searchable and updateable (if there is such a
word), and I was wondering if it was worth the investment of time it would
take? My heart sinks at the thought of it, but I can't let things go on
like they are either. Has anyone else found a successful method of keeping
track of everything?
It's gotten so bad I can't complete a written sentence without having to
scrabble through pages of appalling handwriting and it's taking forever.
I feel like my head is going to explode trying to keep track of everything,
I haven't seen the surface of my desk for weeks, and it's sapping my will to
live - I would be so grateful for some practical, simple advice, please help
me!
Yours desperately,
Sarah
