I can't resist the opportunity - London's not the only city of science. The Bath Scientific Heritage Trail is available at:
http://www.ba-west.org.uk/trail.html
I know it's not the snappiest title, but it does what it says on the tin, and we're selling 400 or so per year in shops, the Tourist office, and museums. Email [log in to unmask] if you'd like to obtain a copy of the A2 full colour map. It would be great if lots of cities did the same.
It turns out that Bath is one of the most important sites in the history of science. The only city since antiquity from where a planet has been discovered (Uranus), it's where William Smith "invented modern geology", and where George Carwardine invented the anglepoise lamp. There's something like 150 scientists and engineers of note connected with Bath. London probably has made just as important a contribution ;)
The website isn't interactive and we'd be delighted if someone were to volunteer to sort it out (so many plans, so little time...)
A while ago, the British Library produced a simple printed map listing some people and places in central London. And there was a sizeable full colour book called 'London Science' - part funded by COPUS - published about the same time. Both were cataloging rather than describing and explaining, but useful enough.
Regards,
Colin

Sound like a good idea for a web site. Fits in with something I suggested to
the Royal Society - and that got ignored, probably because it is too
complicated - after seeing an exhibition on artists in London at the Museum
of London. Why not do "Scientists in London"? I asked.
I have never heard of this one before. And I keep my ear to the ground.
The brutal question is why would anyone visit the site? Do people ever say
to themselves "I fancy a trip to London to look at some science?" Anyone who
does ask the question has one immediate answer and probably don't need a web
site to provide it.
How would I find this site? Which search terms come up in Google?
Maybe reciprocal links with the venues listed would push up the Google
rating.
Clean site, by the way.

PS You need to change the "C 2004 City of Science".

I have been running the London City of Science web site for about 5 years.
In many ways it is a success with thousands of visitors and hundreds of
thousands of page views each month for the 250 or so entries on the site.
http://www.citiesofscience.co.uk/go/London/Portal.html
We were, at least in theory, into user generated content before the term
became fashionable. Sadly we have not had the impact of You Tube or My
Space. So the point of this message is to ask for advice and encourage
contributions from science communicators who live and/or work inside the
M25.
PLACES
These are places in London that have been shaped by science and technology
or have a science connection. Some are very unexpected like the two that
currently feature on the home page - both news to me in the last month.
<http://www.citiesofscience.co.uk/go/London/Place.html>
http://www.citiesofscience.co.uk/go/London/Place.html
WHERE SCIENCE IS DONE
This is the science of today featuring scientists or engineers, research or
development groups or whole institutions. Do the scientists/engineers that
you know feature on the site? Probably not.
http://www.citiesofscience.co.uk/go/London/Where.html
EVENTS
We now only feature events programmes - programmes supported by another web
site. Featuring individual events has turned out to take too much time.
Please let me know if your events programmes is missing from our list - or
any other events programme related to science that you know about.

CONTRIBUTING
Adding an entry is easy: in essence all we need is 100+ words, an image and
a web link where people can find out more. You can add an entry on line to
the site
http://www.citiesofscience.co.uk/go/London/Create.html?city_id=1
Or just send me an e-mail direct.
Please join in.
