Hi all,
I work at Universum, the science museum of the National Autonomous
University in Mexico.
Our museum has a library and I directed this for two years. In that period
we had a successful (if small) book club which was run by students and
myself.
Our main purpose was to promote the library, so what we did was to choose
a book from our collection and talk about it, but also about the author and
the subject in general. We developped a mailing list where we would sent
the invitation, and also a question or two which we thought could guide
the discussion.
Intially we (4) had to do all the work, but in time, the audience also wanted
to present books.
Our audience was composed ot three kinds of people: the museum guides,
students in general, and museum visitors.
I think the success was due to the fact that we made it more a discussion
than
a simple presentation of a book.
saludos,
Susana
