It's also (to me, anyway) un-magical to know that both - those folks in
Troy, and those coming to invade from mainland Greece and the islands - had
no knowledge or memory of Homer! Just as the folks in the so-called
Coalition Forces barely survive on the thread of an absolutely non-heroic
story. There is absolutely no image or myth to go with G. W. Bush's public
and repetitive enunciation of the word "Victory." The whole enterprise looks
absolutely mad - unless you are making tons of money off body armor,
equipment, etc. And those war profiteers look totally diseased, as well.
Saw "The Lives of Others" (title?) movie about surveillance and the Stasi
in East Germany. Great film, and increasingly accurate to the contemporary
moment.
