Positions for Two Research Fellows
£24,402 - £30,013 p.a.
2 year fixed-term contracts
RIGHT (Research Into Global Healthcare Tools) is a multi-centre EPSRC-
funded research project involving the universities of Brunel, Southampton,
Cambridge and Ulster (led by Professor Terry Young at Brunel). In most
other industrial sectors, simulation and modelling are widely used to
explore options, design new systems and make improvements, but these
methods have never yet been systematically adopted in healthcare. The aim
of RIGHT is to develop a framework that connects user needs to user
resources and available modelling tools to assist NHS staff at all levels,
from those who engage in delivery through to planners and policy-makers.
Your role will be to assist in the development of this framework, through
a combination of literature-based research and the development of models
of selected exemplars or case studies with NHS collaborators. At
Southampton, we have vacancies for two Research Fellows, both for 2 year
fixed-term contracts.
You should ideally have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in Operational
Research or a related discipline. Experience in a UK healthcare
application area would be an advantage. You will be part of a rapidly
growing group of healthcare modellers within the Centre for Operational
Research, Management Science and Information Systems (see
www.cormsis.soton.ac.uk) with opportunities for further career development.
Both posts are fixed term contracts from 16 April 2007 until 15 April
2009, and will be located on the Highfield campus with occasional travel
to sites within commuting distance of Southampton.
The closing date for applications is 23 February 2007. Interviews will
take place during March 2007.
Research Fellow 1 - for this post, knowledge of simulation (discrete-event
and/or system dynamics) is essential.
