It was used by welders in various occupational settings to prevent nasal tissue being exposed to
chrome mist/dusts.
These days they recommend only the use of vaseline and to follow the health surveillance
recommendations from the HSE - see link www.hse.gov.uk/surfaceengineering/eh2.pdf
Hope this helps

Hello
can I ask if anyone has come across, or uses even, a product
called 'Platers Ointment'??
I have recently come across it, aparently made from Lanolin and Vasoline it
is apparently used in the nostrils of platers, quite what for I have no
idea.
It would appear, looking at the pot that it's been made up as opposed to
being a POM or 'over the shelf' product.
I'd be grateful for any information on this or any other product that may
be used for platers.
Regards
Glenn
