Dear Tracy,
you do not need to perform a scar check. The documentary evidence that
the BCG has been given is all that you need to record. The presence or
absence of the scar does not give clear indication as to TB immunity and
you would not re-vaccinate someone who did not develop a scar so why
bother checking.
Naturally you should inform the employee to report serious adverse
reactions or secondary infections at the site and advise that the
vaccine does not offer 100% protection.

Dear all,
I know this has been discussed recently on the list, just wanted to
clarify
that the BCG Scar check is carried out approx six weeks after the
vaccine
has been given.
Does anyone have a proceedure they would be willing to share on this,
Many thanks
Tracy
