Hi Neil
Its tricky when asked to see someone with an issue that is
'embarrassing' or faces embarrassment to confront - hence lets ask OH
to mop up the dirty work.
I agree that yes there may be an underlying medical reason for an
issue such as halitosis. However, i feel management are
making you the fall guy. Remember when a person attends OH it is
with their mutual consent and they should know why they are
being asked to attend.
I recall being sent a management referral to meet an employee with
'personal hygiene issues' - the form was long winded about this about
who had complained about this etc..It was quite a number of people.
The lady attended her appointment and had no idea why she was being
asked to attend - the manager was not available to discuss prior to
her appointment. Hence a sharp response to the manager that i was
prepared to meet this lady and assist if appropriate but only with
her consent and full knowledge regarding the referral issue.
Hope this helps
Steph
