My understanding is that there is an argument for reasonableness of
adjustments. I.e. could a person of less stature do the same job with
adjustments, and would that be reasonable (time to do job, cost of
adjustments i.e. a step vs hoist etc).
I believe however that a statement of physical requirements in a job
description may be a way round this. It does not preclude someone from
applying, but they should understand that there is a physical
requirement for the job (e.g. firemen, crane operators etc). One of the
best uses of this I recall is the MOD when women applied to fight at the
frontline, rather that prevent female applicants a physical standard was
set that all applicants must meet, regardless or gender, ability,
physique etc.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] employing people of certain height
Hello list
Can anyone tell me what you think of the idea of employing people of a
certain height because if they're too short they wont be able to lift
boxes
onto the top row of the pallet.(about 6 feet from the floor)
I was always under the impression that the job should be adapted to the
employee not the other way around? I have carried out a general search
and
HSE search but cant find anything that supports this.
I look forward to the responses
