Dear list members
I have one announcement, one request:
1) LINKING CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT
A series of final reports from the project ‘Linking Climate Change
Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management for Sustainable Poverty Reduction’
are now available to download. The project, funded by the European
Commission on behalf of the Vulnerability and Adaptation Resource Group
(VARG), involved studies in three countries (Mexico, Kenya and Vietnam) and
culminated in an international project workshop hosted by UN-ISDR in Geneva
in October 2006. The work included assessment of changes in risk, progress
toward integration and the institutional challenges that remain for the
three study countries, and provides a series of recommendations on themes
such as: integrating information packaging and communication; incorporating
livelihood resilience; improving coordination; leveraging finance for
adaptation; and creation of an enabling environment.
A Synthesis Report developing cross-cutting findings and full reports on
the Mexico, Kenya and Vietnam country studies are available on the
Documents page of the VARG website www.climatevarg.org
2) USE OF ‘VIGNETTES’ IN HAZARD/DISASTER RESEARCH
Does anybody have experience/knowledge of the use of vignettes
(hypothetical scenarios) in social science research on responses
to ‘natural’ hazards – particularly in elucidating risk perceptions and
behaviour at household level? If so, I’d be delighted if you could point me
toward any published results/discussions or research reports.
Many thanks
