PhD WORKSHOP: MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN SCIENCE AND MEDICINE
A one-day workshop in the Department of History and Philosophy of
Science, University of Cambridge, on Friday 23 March 2007.
This workshop will provide specialist doctoral training for PhD students
from across the UK working on medieval and early modern history of science
and medicine. These periods present particular challenges to researchers,
often requiring the acquisition of specialist research skills, and the
study of material which may be dispersed or incomplete.
Throughout the day, scholars in the history of science and medicine will
offer advice on framing research questions from a range of material -
texts, images, objects, and data - and on acquiring or honing the skills
necessary to carry out research. There will be time for questions and
discussion, and students are encouraged to interact and share research
strategies. Participants' research interests and contact details will be
published in a booklet as an aid to further communication.
Speakers include Stephen Clucas, Katie Eagleton, Peter Forshaw, Sachiko
Kusukawa, Timothy McHugh, Alisha Rankin, Andrew Wear, Tessa Webber, and
John Young.
Assistance may be available towards travel expenses. Owing to limited
space, early booking is recommended.
