Conference Call
ECREA Gender and Communication Specific CFP
The ECREA Gender and Communication Section is pleased to announce its
participation in the upcoming ECREA Symposium on Equal Opportunities and
Communication Rights, to be held at the Residence Palace (Brussels,
Belgium), between 11 and 12 October 2007 (please see general call attached).
We consider this symposium to provide an opportunity to organise sessions
with the objective of bringing together scholars from the communication
field with a specific interest in gender, conceptualised in a broad sense.
Our main aim will be to foment reflection on the intersections of gender
and the media within the European Union today.
Aiming to bridge the gap between communication and gender studies, this
section is particularly open to interdisciplinary approaches that combine a
focus on gender with media research, namely media production, content
analysis of media texts and media use and/or reception. Amongst
gender-related topics, we include issues such as ethnicity, identity
politics, queer studies, media industries, feminist media studies, popular
culture studies, poststructural theory and a host of philosophical
questions.
The Gender and Communication Section welcomes 20-minute papers on any of
the following themes:
- Equal opportunities to participate and the democratic divide within the EU
- European public spheres and their intersection with traditionally
feminised private spheres
- Representations of women, minorities, marginalised groups and the way
these representations intersect within the EU
- Contributions of gendered media analyses or gendered journalism to the
construction of representation in the European public sphere
The deadline for submission of abstracts (max 500 words) is 01/05/2007.
The deadline for submission of full papers is 15/09/2007.
