Dear All

Many apologies for sending this out to the entire eforum. This was a
mistake on my part.

Best wishes
Katharine

Importance: High

Hi Xiaoming

How are you? Will I see you at the Manchester seminar next week? I think
there should be a good debate on accreditation, as Edexcel is there.

Just trying to put together some data on Chinese. Could you give me the
numbers studying the language in each year group this year and whether
club or main curriculum? Many thanks and sorry for the urgency.

Best wishes
Katharine

Subject: Re: AS exams

Dear Katharine

Here at Djanogly, we had a year11 student Adon doing AS this year and he
got a B. He is an exceptionally good student with an A* result (scored
96%) in his GCSE last year when he was in year10. Then within one year's
time with 3 50-minute (almost 1 to 1) lessons every week, he finally
scored B for the AS. He felt it was a big gap from GCSE to AS. He worked
very hard and was very pleased with his result.

I used the New Practical Chinese Reader and some UKFCS textbooks. Yip
Po-Ching and Rimmington D's Intermediate Chinese: A Grammar and Workbook
(esp. the exercises) was useful for teaching grammar.

Talking about AS, my concern is that there is only a short list of
grammar words and phrases in the specification. It would help if there
was a list of core vocabulary or something similar (remember the exam is
all about characters). Currently, I feel it is too much for the
students to prepare to cover all the topics and subtopics.

Regards

Xiaoming

Subject: AS exams

Dear All

Final email from me this evening - honestly!

I would like to hear from those who had candidates for the AS this year
aswell, along the same lines as the GCSE - ie how the students did, your
perceptions of the exam, how much work they did in comparison to that
required for other subjects etc.

All this will be put together to discuss with Edexcel next Tuesday and I
will report back to you all.

Best wishes and many thanks
Katharine
