Hello colleagues,
Is anyone using both document- and content-level metadata in managing their
digital collection of publications?
I am involved in two initiatives:
1) The first initiative is the introduction of document-level metadata
(using a combination of Dublin Core, eGMS, and some additional, industry-
and company-specific elements) to help us improve search and retrieval of
our publications.
2) The second initiative is the introduction of content-level metadata
(probably using DITA) to assist us with content reuse.
While there must be a relationship between them, every time I begin to
thrash it out, the result is untidy in parts (e.g. we put the company name
as author so that is the same at the content level as the document one get
more complicated when it comes to elements such as subject – a section
within a document can be about X while the document itself could be about a
broader topic).
I'd welcome an opportunity to speak to someone who has dealt with (or is
dealing with) a similar situation…we can't possibly be the first, can we?
Thanks,
David
