A word of clarification, in association, as they say, with Derek Law who
chaired the original governance review.
Under the new structure, you can't sit on any branch or group committee
if you are elected to Council. This is because a high priority has been
given to making the new, smaller band of trustees independent of any
sectional or regional interest and able to concentrate 100% on the
strategic management of Cilip as a whole. This is, I would say, a
natural follow-on from the decision to move to having all councilors
being national councillors and elected by a ballot of the whole voting
memebrship.
Whether you should be able to be simultaneously a member of your local
branch and a SIG seems to me a separate question. I hope the
implementation group will clarify the situation. On the whole it seems
a shame to turn away willing workhorses.

But surely the point was to avoid a handful of personalities wielding a
lot of power between themselves?
Maybe the way forward is for branches and groups to encourage e.g.
immediate past committee members to consider standing for Council? That
way the one will still feed into the other. Plus branches and groups
will feed into the policy forum.

That sounds bonkers - who said it?
